Transitioning to a New Career
How to listen to your inner wisdom and voice to know your dream job.
Service Description
Many people advise listening to one's inner wisdom and voice. How does one listen? How do you find your own voice? I have been guiding young entrepreneurs, mid-life professionals, as well as students in transition between degrees in many fields -- business, the arts, humanities, social sciences, and law. As a professor of ethnomusicology and anthropology, I guide students in how to write about their experiences. Experiences are like emotions in that they are very difficult to describe to another person who hasn't also experienced them first hand. Through working with mentees to narrativize their experience, and tell their stories, I have seen clients gain control over their "voice," articulating who they are on paper, and sharing their story with the wider world. Writing down your narrative makes possible communicating your dreams and goals, and raising funds for your projects if needs be (see TED Talks). While teaching upper-level undergraduates, I see students struggle with "senioritis." They feel anxious because they do not know what they are going to do after graduation. So I create opportunities for students to feel empowered, and to find their voice. As someone who knows first hand about transitions, I bring techniques to our sessions that can help you shift to the next stage of your career. May your journey of transition to your dreams be smooth and clear.
